Still Life

24 Apr 2024 - 29 Sep 2024
A journey through nature, whose protagonists are inanimate objects: fruit, flowers, crustaceans, fish and dead game, books, musical instruments and other objects.

For a long time, still-life, although accepted, was considered by academic culture to be a minor genre and was kept on the margins of studies and museums for centuries. Beloved only by a class of private collectors, it has suffered severely from the dispersion and pulverisation of so many collections, caused by the extinction of lineages.

The Correale Museum, on the other hand, collects and exhibits the Correale family’s love of art, the collection and safekeeping of beautiful works of art and many collections, including the marvellous Still-Life.

The well-known collection of the Correale Museum is accompanied by unpublished works taken, for the occasion, from the Museum’s deposits: in this case too, although the works on display need and require restoration interventions possible through the Adopt a work of art, the beauty and uniqueness of nature are enhanced by the vigor and freshness of interpretation.

In this type of painting, man, the demigod of Renaissance art, has disappeared.

With the affirmation of the heliocentric model, which supplanted the geocentric one, seventeenth- century man discovered that he was no longer at the centre of the universe, but that he was placed between two abysses, infinity and nothingness, and that he therefore had no firm points of reference.
