Vezzi Manufactory
Francesco Vezzi, who was born in Udine in 1651 and moved to Venice as a young man, initially devoted himself to the goldsmith’s art, achieving such artistic and economic success that he acquired a considerable social position. Having acquired a noble title, he visited the porcelain factory in Vienna and decided to finance the factory run by his son Giovanni. The Vezzi factory was the only one among the European factories set up to operate on a purely commercial basis: unlike the factories in Meissen and Vienna, which were owned by the sovereign, the Vezzi Manufactory had no state support either legally or financially. The economic situation worsened to such an extent that it was decided to close the factory in 1727.
